What I Learned In Graphic Design Theory Before I took GDT, design was all about making things look pretty. But now I realize it's way more than that. It's about how to make things work to get a message across clearly and creatively. One of the things I've learned is visual hierarchy. What people notice first! I've learned how to use color, shape, and size to guide the reader's eyes to where the message's importance lies. Kinda like a roadmap..Big and bold to grab attention, and smaller stuff comes later. I've also learned about color theory. Colors aren't just pretty; they make people feel emotions. Red for excitement or love, or blue for trustworthy or calm. In turn, it sets the mood of your theme. Using typography is another thing I found interesting. That's all about the fonts used in a piece. Never realizing the impact of a font is interesting. Using personality threw words. WOW right! There are so many jacked-up ways to express yourself. Then...

Hello, my creative readers..I had a lot of fun with this one. I had to make a poster for an upcoming event. I chose to do it at the Repticon Show happening in Orlando in December. Getting certain things to pop out on this background was a little tricky. I have learned to use the colors to work together to draw the eye, making it easy for the eye to read the important information first. I am very proud of myself for learning about these skills and being able to use them correctly. Thanks for reading. Keep creating..

Hello Creatives..This is the collage I created for my graphic design project. Creating a collage is not as easy as I thought it would be. Many factors contribute to creating a good collage. This collage is to entice the viewer to want to take a vacation trip to the beach. It has beautiful beaches and after-hours photos to show that it is a vacation destination for people looking for a peaceful yet party atmosphere. Did I get that across in my poster? Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks for your input. Happy Creating!

Hey, Creative Creators. This is my cruise ship poster for school. I've been learning how to blend my pictures together to create a cohesive image. This project taught me how to define the message and choose an eye catching image. The colors in the poster to evoke emotions and the typography give it a touch of elegancy. learning to balance the layout and use white space also drag the eyes where it is most needed ton gt the idea across. This poster is to make people think about paradise.
Week 3- Creative Post

Hello to all the creative people reading this post today. This week, I would like to go over a few things I learned. I've learned that you need to find out what someone is trying to say or the message they want to convey in the project. There is a lot of research and questions to be done or asked. People love it when you ask questions about them. Getting to know what they really want, what they like, is very important. After getting this information, write down the key points and sketch out a few or many thumbtacks to help figure out how to go about putting it where it needs to be to portray the message. Sometimes they don't like to hear what will look good, but what they think will look good. That's where it could get tricky. Sometimes you just have to give them what they ask for to prove it's not what they really want. Then show them how your skills you learned will better help them with the message they want to get across to the audience they are trying to deliver t...

We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do Get in touch with your inner cheerleader and create a cheer. Cheers fall into two (2) categories: 1. Building up the team you're cheering for.. 2. Putting the other team down.. Create a cheer that does one or the other!! Must be at least four (4) sentences and must have exclamation marks.. Pg. 142 Caffeine for the Creative Mind To come up with this cheer, I had to go back in time to when I was actually a real cheerleader in school. We used to sit for hours using the other team's name in rhymes and rhythm to get them to sound right. Peppy cheers came easily, but putting down the outer team nicely was harder.

Hello creative friends. This week I have been playing around with the way I write posts and one thing i have noticed is some information is more important then the rest.. this information deserves to pop out or be noticed more. To make this happen here is a guide line. 1. Break it down 2. Bold it out. 3. Keep it short 4. Space it out All these things help get the point across in their own way. These are just a few tweaks that are not difficult but make a world of difference in the visual. This is my yard sale poster. What do you think? I don't know how to make this wrap around my picture yet, but maybe next week. lol The 1st thing I learned to do is break down the information into sections. What is the message that I want the reader to see most? Make sure that the most important information "pops" out at them! That would be the bolding it out! Then, to keep it short and sweet, so they don't lose interest in reading it. I have learned the better your spacing and use ...
Blog Post 3 Creativity Debate This

Hello to all the creative debaters out there reading this. A great debater was taken from us. I want to dedicate this blog to Charlie Kirk . He was a Conservative Activist and a co-founder of Turning Point USA. He believed in the work he was doing and strongly believed in free speech. He was creative in many ways in his own way. He was shot and killed at a school campus while speaking to a large crowd of students. The debate was "Prove Me Wrong," where he invited students to challenge his political and cultural views. So, in his honor, R.I.P. to a great role model. My project is from the Caffeine for the Creative Mind book. Rob Morgan, Costa Mesa, CA pg 289 The fear of every college freshman.... SPEECH AND DEBATE CLASS! . Learning to communicate in a verbal way is essential to the success of any creative. Whether it's articulating our clients' message or defending an idea or direction, debate has become an important skill for creatives to have. Your task is to do j...

This is my business card that I created in graphic design class. (with a little help) I have learned a lot about how to direct the eyes to where the information is most important. I have also learned how to put a few extra things on it like texture and font sizes and styles. Learning how to put layers was a little challenging at first, but the more work I put into it the easier it is getting. I guess you could say it is almost getting to be fun. Intimidating at first but fun.
Designer Blog-Week 2: Contrast and Design

Hey everybody! After diving into the theory of color last week, I began exploring how design decisions affect the way we experience visuals. Contrast is the focus this week. Contrast is the engine of attention. Without it everything feels flat and gets lost in the background. High-contrast colors can make a poster stand out from across the room, while softer contrasts can create harmony and balance. It's also about the importance of the information you want the design to deliberate on most. What really interested me was how contrast is a storytelling tool. Using it to control visual hierarchy. Guiding the eye from headline to detail. Or from image to support text. It has a way of telling the audience to "Start here." Learning about contrast is definitely reminded me that design is not only about making things look good or pretty, but also about direction and emotion. When contrast is used, it can turn a simple design into something powerful. Definitely a tool...
Do You See What I Hear?

Tina Merritt AKA Vettes View Do You See What I Hear? Or is It Do You Hear What I See? Good Morning to all my creative friends..Soon to be friends. I started a Graphic Design course a few weeks ago and would like to share a few things I have learned. I have learned that colors have feelings; should I say they give us feelings and emotions? I really never even thought that far into this until this class started. Not only that, but the way they are laid out on a page or document can draw your eyes in the direction the designer wants you to, so the most important message is that I got the first week of class is to get the positioning of the message where it needs to be to make the most important things noticeable. I was also asked to do a creative project..This was a creative way to hear and see more of what we watch. I made this up myself so if it gets confusing, please give me some input to make it doable. Grab A Clip From A Movie You Have Never Seen! 1. Watch the clip w...
