Designer Blog-Week 2: Contrast and Design

Hey everybody! After diving into the theory of color last week, I began exploring how design decisions affect the way we experience visuals. Contrast is the focus this week. Contrast is the engine of attention. Without it everything feels flat and gets lost in the background. High-contrast colors can make a poster stand out from across the room, while softer contrasts can create harmony and balance. It's also about the importance of the information you want the design to deliberate on most.

What really interested me was how contrast is a storytelling tool. Using it to control visual hierarchy. Guiding the eye from headline to detail. Or from image to support text. It has a way of telling the audience to "Start here."

Learning about contrast is definitely reminded me that design is not only about making things look good or pretty, but also about direction and emotion. When contrast is used, it can turn a simple design into something powerful. Definitely a tool  I will be using as I go forward in my Graphic Design Journey.

Now that I have been taught what it is I see it everywhere!!

The exercise I made is to:

1. Go to the store or website and look at the posters, ads or anything that has contrast.

2. Write down what makes your eyes drawn to them? What colors?

3. What's the message you see first, second, and third?

4. What colors were used?

5. Did it POP or not?

Thanks for joining me. Yall have fun with it. HAVE A CREATIVE DAY!
